Adam Tanious, MD, MMSc
New to South Carolina, Dr. Adam Tanious is a vascular surgeon who is excited to call Charleston home. He and his wife, a pediatric anesthesiologist at MUSC, are thrilled to bring their unique talents and young family to this wonderful city. Dr. Tanious has trained with some of the world's greatest vascular surgeons since becoming interested in vascular surgery over 15 years ago while in college at the Johns Hopkins University and as a medical student at Michigan State University.
Caring for patients with vascular disease has been the focus of both his clinical and research interests. As a resident at the University of South Florida and the Massachusetts General Hospital, he had the opportunity to learn from world-renowned surgeons using the latest technology for both open and minimally invasive vascular surgery. His areas of expertise include: aortic aneurysms, carotid disease, venous disease, peripheral arterial disease, dialysis surgery, and wound care. Dr. Tanious has also specifically trained in working with other surgical teams to assist when there is a need for the exposure, control, and repair of blood vessels during complex surgeries anywhere in the body. Ultimately, his goal is to provide his patients with the best care and procedures specific to their needs.
From early in his career, Dr. Tanious has always had a special interest in teaching the next generation of vascular surgeons. He has been published in many medical journals and invited to speak at national meetings regarding his research on education during surgical training. He has also co-developed an online vascular course for surgery trainees to maximize learning both in and out of the operating room. This idea of teaching extends to his patients as well. Dr. Tanious prides himself on making sure his patients understand exactly what is going on with their whole health picture and all the options they have when it comes to their vascular care. His ultimate goal is to empower his patients to make the best decision possible for their health and their future.
