Matthew N. Simmons, MD

Dr. Matthew Simmons specializes in robotic surgery and the treatment of prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers, as well as upper tract reconstruction and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He collaborates closely with medical and radiation oncologists to provide comprehensive care for complex urologic cancers. Additionally, Dr. Simmons treats a wide range of general urologic conditions and performs advanced procedures, including laser stone surgery, hydrocelectomy, TURP, vasectomy, and more.

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Simmons graduated summa cum laude from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, in 1995. He earned a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from the University of Florida in 2001, followed by an M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine in 2003. He completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic in 2009, where he remained on staff for three years, conducting research on minimally invasive and robotic urologic surgery and oncology.

Dr. Simmons practiced privately in Bend, Oregon, from 2013 to 2020, before serving as a professor of urology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta from 2020 to 2024.

Currently, he practices at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Centers and holds an adjunct clinical professorship at MUSC. His work focuses on pioneering innovative therapies for BPH and prostate cancer, including Rezum and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).
