Sarah R Breevoort, MD, PhD

Dr. Sarah R. Breevoort, M.D. Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Neurology at MUSC and specializes in neuromuscular medicine. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry and Cellular Biology from the University of Georgia in 2008. She then completed a combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Virginia obtaining a Ph.D. in pharmacology studying cholesterol metabolism pathways in the setting of cardiovascular disease. With combined interests in neurology, musculoskeletal medicine, and rehabilitation she went on to complete a residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Utah. Dr. Breevoort then completed a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine also at the University of Utah. She joined MUSC's neurology division in September 2022. Her clinical interests include electrodiagnostic testing and diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders with a particular interest in inherited and acquired muscular diseases. Her research interests involve promoting a better understanding of the muscle microenvironment and the key players involved in muscular degeneration and regeneration with the goal of developing novel therapeutic strategies to aid muscle regeneration.
