Dr. Patrick Flume joined the faculty of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1993. He is now a professor of medicine and pediatrics, overseeing a rapidly growing cystic fibrosis center. Though he continues to practice general pulmonary and critical care medicine, his primary interests are in cystic fibrosis (CF) and bronchiectasis, and chronic lung infections, including nontuberculous mycobacteria. The MUSC Health Cystic Fibrosis Center is the principal CF program in South Carolina. We provide state-of-the-art care to patients and families with CF, provide primary education of clinicians and basic scientists in the field of CF, and perform basic and clinical research in the field of CF. Dr. Flume is the center director and has national recognition from the national and international CF community having served on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center Committee, the Adult Care Consensus Committee, the Advisory Task Force on Adult Issues, the Professional Education Committee, and as co-chair for the Pulmonary Practice Guidelines Committee.Dr. Flume has an active clinical research program and heads the MUSC Research Nexus.
