Joseph Thomas Beckworth, MD

Dr. Beckworth was born in Savannah, Georgia, and completed his undergraduate education at The University of Georgia in 2013. He graduated from the University of Georgia Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. Dr. Beckworth attended medical school at The Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership in Athens Georgia, and obtained his medical degree in 2019. During his time in medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society for his academic achievements. He moved to Charleston, South Carolina after medical school, where he completed both his General Psychiatry residency, as well as his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The Medical University of South Carolina. During fellowship training, he earned the psychiatry Golden Apple Teaching Award for efforts in medical student teaching. After completing his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship, Dr. Beckworth transitioned to a faculty position at The Medical University of South Carolina in 2024.

Dr. Beckworth is board certified in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Beckworth specializes in seeing children, adolescents, and some young adults. He has additional clinical interest in working with individuals of the LGBTQIA+ community, and supporting their mental health needs.
