Dr. Dauren Adilbay is a head and neck surgeon who also specializes in microvascular reconstruction. With over 15 years of experience, he has a strong reputation for excellence in this field. Dr. Adilbay has dedicated his career to helping patients with head and neck conditions, providing top-notch care and innovative treatments. His surgical expertise covers a wide range of areas including thyroid cancer, parathyroid adenomas/diseases, oral cancer, oropharyngeal cancer (including robotic surgery), laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers, skin cancer, salivary gland benign tumors, and malignancies, sialoendoscopy, as well as soft tissue sarcomas of the head and neck area.

Dr. Adilbay graduated with honors (Cum Laude) in Kazakhstan and received training in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery in Almaty and Moscow. Throughout his training and early career, he had the opportunity to be trained in top-notch institutions in Milan (European Institute of Oncology), Paris (Institute Gustave Roussy), and New York (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center).

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Adilbay is committed to research. His research has been published and recognized internationally, enhancing the knowledge and treatment options available for these conditions. Recognizing his contribution to the field he served as an executive board member of the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS) and the Asian Pacific Thyroid Surgery Society (Seoul).

At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York), Dr. Adilbay worked on groundbreaking projects involving fluorescent imaging of nerves and tumors. His research focused on developing innovative diagnostic tools, including the first fluorescent compound to diagnose smell disorders, such as those caused by COVID-19. He also contributed to creating a fluorescence nerve imaging agent to improve surgical outcomes in head and neck surgery.

He recently completed a head and neck surgery/microvascular reconstruction fellowship at LSU Health Shreveport, performing over 500 surgeries (in <2 years), including many complex reconstructions.

Now, as an assistant professor at MUSC, Dr. Adilbay continues his work in both patient care and research. Dr. Adilbay's goal is to become a leader in this field, providing the best possible care to his patients and advancing medical knowledge.
